Inspector Wayne Goodwin of the Kent Police has struggled with depression and obsessive compulsive disorder for years, according to a story published by Express. He has hidden it for years, fearing the stigma would negatively effect his career, but after he decided to confide in a colleague, he realized lots of police are crazy, and even managed to weasel a promotion out of the deal.
“I had hidden it for so long and it was building up like a pressure cooker so I needed to do something,” says the 40-year-old officer. “If I hadn’t, I felt I would have had a nervous breakdown”. Pressure cooker is an interesting metaphor, because Goodwin worked for the bomb squad. “I would have to organize things like bomb disposal teams” he said.
