Written by Those of you who have been listening to these member shows for awhile will be unsurprised to know that I have been corresponding with a prisoner by the name of Robert Rundo. I have read aloud to you some of our letters, and explained to you my reasoning for not drawing more public attention to these communications. This has been an occasional treat for members only, though I have hoped my preservation of these records may make for more compelling public content in the future.
Today I was confronted by my probation officer about this, because Mr. Rundo is a convicted felon, and I, being on probation, am not allowed to associate with convicted felons without getting permission from my PO.
As it turns out, I did get permission from my PO. Albeit a different PO at an earlier time, and this permission was not specific to Mr. Rundo. I had explained to my prior PO that it was part of my job to communicate with people who in some cases may have found themselves on the wrong side of the government, and he understood this.
Despite this, I was today ordered to cease my correspondence with Mr. Rundo.
I was however granted permission to send Mr. Rundo a conclusory message, explaining why I’d not be able to continue our correspondence. I sent this, and it was promptly rejected by the Bureau of Prisons, claiming it was a threat to the safety or security of the facility.
This is unambiguously false, and I have asked my PO to correct the impropriety.
I’ll share with you today some more of this correspondence, as well as some correspondence with the PO and the lawyers pertaining to the incident today.
I’ll also ask that you send Mr. Rundo a letter, thanking him for his honorable service to our noble cause.
