If I were to be made aware that a murderer was on the loose in my neighborhood, I might unholster my weapon and make sure the doors were locked. If I were a student at Delta State University in Mississippi right now, the best advice I could get for staying alive would be to “stay away from the windows”. That’s because Delta State “prohibits the possession of pistols, firearms or other weapons in any form by any person other than duly authorized law enforcement officials on its institutions’ premises or at any of its institutions or student functions off campus, regardless of whether such person possesses a valid permit to carry such pistols, firearms, or weapons.”
Unfortunately for Professor Ethan Schmidt, it would seem somebody didn’t get the memo. He’s been shot dead in his office, and his assailant remains at large. The campus has been on lockdown since about 10:45am. Schmidt was an assistant professor of history who recently published his second book, let’s hope it wasn’t a trilogy.
