Mikhail Kalashnikov, famed inventor of the AK-47 rifle is dead. We don’t yet have word on cause of death, except to say that it was of natural causes at the age of 94.
The Kalashnikov is world’s most famous assault rifle. The AK came from the Russian word “avtomat” which meant automatic rifle, followed by Kalashnikov, the last name of it’s inventor, and 47, was the year in which it was designed. It was designed to be cheap, reliable, and user friendly. It forever changed the landscape of warfare, and is the most commonly owned combat rifle in the world today.
Mikhail was a poet, the son of refugees, and ill as a child nearly dying at the age of 6. He says he developed the rifle as a weapon to defend his homeland, and is famously quoted as saying “Blame the Nazi Germans for making me become a gun designer … I always wanted to construct agriculture machinery.”
None of this stopped liberals on twitter from celebrating his death.
